Okanagan Greens Society Says Thanks!
For Immediate Release
September 23, 2012:
Kelowna –
Thank you to the Okanagan community for their spirit and support shown at the 7th Annual Organic Okanagan Festival (OOF)! This year’s festival was a great success, with both familiar faces and new groups collaborating to present what felt like our most positive event yet.
With 500 guests joining 51 Okanagan businesses and organizations, the event highlighted green living awareness and raised $700 in food & funds for the Kelowna Community Food Bank.
Key highlights from the 2012 OOF include:
With the incredible help of GreenStep and Green Police volunteers we diverted 97% of event waste from the landfill into composting and recycling. 41 cyclists attended the OOF this year and enjoyed the Kelowna Area Cycling Coalition bike valet service.
Presentation highlights included: the National Organic Week proclamation from his Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Kelowna Lake Country MLA Norm Letnick, the thought provoking COABC NO GMO Apple panel discussion and a wonderful lineup of local musicians.
The Love the Apple theme was enjoyed by all, with the Mobile Juice Factory pressing lots of organic apple juice, the Cool Arts Society stamping apple t-shirts and hundreds of OOF attendees signed the Okanagan Greens Society NO GMO apple petition.
The Okanagan Greens Society extends our warmest thanks to all of you! We were overwhelmed by the dedication of this year’s volunteer team, our amazing supportive sponsors, the incredible group of exhibitors and by the many sincere thanks expressed by Okanagan community members.
